Although I’m primarily English & Infants by trade, as I’d had a go at the Y3/4 Maths with very positive feedback, I thought I’d try my hand at Y5/6 too. I hadn’t taught Year 5 since I’d trained back in 2011, but it was surprisingly nice to wear a UKS2 hat again – and actually these were some of my most enjoyable bits to create during the school closure so far.
I went for an Alex Rider mental maths theme – Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed the book when they studied it last summer.
The games follow Alex as he trains to work for M.I.6, through a series of missions and challenges. Although the challenges are the same for Y56, the work is differentiated – bar the final challenge on the Friday. I’ve attached a selection here.
The theme, and challenge, went down a treat with the children, but the best feedback came with the final challenge.
Hope you enjoy the soundtracks too.
